“You're the Narrator and Navigator. I'm your Editor and Scout.”
Cressler Jamison McArthur doesn't see his role as writing someone's story for them or choosing their destination. His role is collaborative — helping people investigate patterns, explore perspectives, identify possibilities, and practice approaches that may help them move toward their chosen goals.
You're the Narrator & Navigator. Cressler is your Host & Guide — you choose the destination, together you investigate the route.

A life of service, nature, and flow — brought to change work.
Cressler grew up in Otto, North Carolina, deep in the Nantahala National Forest. As the adopted oldest sibling on an alpaca farm, he helped care for younger siblings and took on much of the manual labor while still in school. Responsibility came early, and with it a sense of self-reliance, discipline, and quiet leadership. The forest taught him something else, too — that he feels most grounded and safe in natural environments, and that clarity often arrives when you slow down enough to notice the patterns underneath the surface.
After high school, he joined the military and served as a Liquid Fuels and Water Systems technician. The work drew him toward systems, engineering, and the flow of things — how something moves, where it meets resistance, and how it finds its way through. It's a way of thinking he still brings to the patterns people carry.
Later, he bought an RV and traveled throughout the U.S. pursuing music. He performed guitar, synths, vocals, and hand percussion; led meditation drum circles; and played music for children in Boulder. For five summers he worked the Colorado Renaissance Festival as an accordion player and performer with The Thatchhouse Bards. Music, for Cressler, has always been a form of healing — a way to move energy, settle a room, and help people arrive somewhere a little quieter than where they started.
Years of caregiving followed — in memory care, hospice, and home health — work that asks for presence more than answers. Alongside it, he studied across a wide span of traditions: Christian, Wiccan and Pagan, Hindu, Buddhist, Zen, Daoist, and Rosicrucian teachings. He became a self-ordained minister and practiced divination through cartomancy and bibliomancy. Out of all of it came a conviction he keeps close: that healing is integration — body, mind, spirit, and story brought into flow rather than fought against. “Be like water.” God is in the transpersonal. Understanding arrives through lived experience in the world.
That conviction is what Inner Story Works is built on. The practice helps people listen to the deeper patterns of their lives, reconnect with themselves, and move toward clarity and meaningful change — working with body, mind, spirit, and story as one. The services are recognizable and professional: hypnotherapy, Navigator coaching, and music and recordings offered in support of healing. “Editor and Scout” describes the working relationship, not a regulated professional credential.
The threads that run through everything.
Responsibility & Service
From the farm to caregiving to the work itself — a steady orientation toward showing up for others and taking care of what's in front of you.
Nature as Clarity
The forest is where Cressler feels most grounded. The practice carries that same belief: slow down, notice the pattern, and the next step becomes easier to see.
Systems & Flow
A technician's eye for how things move and where they meet resistance — brought to the patterns people carry rather than pipes and fuel lines.
Music as Healing
Years of performance, drum circles, and playing for children taught him that sound and rhythm can settle a nervous system and help people arrive somewhere quieter.
Caregiving & Compassion
Memory care, hospice, and home health work that asks for presence over answers — the same presence he brings to sitting with someone's pattern.
Integration
Study across many traditions led to one conviction: healing is body, mind, spirit, and story brought into flow — not fought against. “Be like water.”
