Inner Story Works

Your Story. Your Direction.

You are the Narrator and the Navigator — the author of your story and the one who chooses where it goes. Cressler's role is different: an Editor for the story, a Scout for the terrain ahead.

You're the Narrator & Navigator. Cressler is your Host & Guide — you choose the destination, together you investigate the route.

Your Roles

You hold the authorship and the direction.

You

The Narrator

It's your story. Notice the interpretations, assumptions, beliefs, and meanings you've developed through experience. Being the Narrator isn't inventing a false positive story or pretending difficult things didn't happen — it's becoming more conscious of how experiences are interpreted and how the story you carry may influence what happens next.

You

The Navigator

It's your destination. Consider where you are now, where you want to go, what matters to you, what resources are available, and what route you could try. The Navigator chooses the direction — and what to do when an obstacle appears.

Cressler's Roles

An Editor for the story. A Scout for the terrain.

Cressler

The Editor

An Editor doesn't take over authorship. Cressler helps you look more closely at what's already on the page — assumptions, recurring themes, perspectives, beliefs, interpretations, and possibilities for reframing. The Editor doesn't write your story for you. He helps you notice what may be hiding between the lines.

Cressler

The Scout

A Scout explores the terrain ahead. Cressler can help notice patterns, obstacles, resources, options, and possible routes that may be difficult to see while you're in the middle of the situation. The Scout doesn't decide where you should go — you choose the destination, and together you investigate the route.

You choose the destination. We investigate the route.

Story and Direction

The work moves between understanding and action.

Understanding where a pattern came from can be valuable, but insight alone doesn't always create behavioral change. Forcing action without understanding what maintains a recurring pattern can sometimes leave a person repeatedly fighting themselves. Inner Story Works explores both.

Story

What happened? What meaning did you make of it? What did you learn or come to believe? What pattern may have developed — and is that interpretation still helping you?

Direction

Where are you now? Where do you want to go? What's getting in the way? What other routes or responses are available, and what can you practice next?
